Environment Broadwater
Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 06:30PM Among it's many shortcomings our loveable Albany was on point in this one arena. The prop to build a nat gas pipeline under Long Island sound to feed energy to NYC among other areas was squashed last week despite support from the fed and other notable policy makers. Right minded people won out in the drawn out battle that was recently thrust into uncertainty following the exit of our beloved Elliot. "Broadwater simply was not the answer to the energy question", said Leah Schmalz, who is director of legal affairs for Save the Sound, a program of the Connecticut Fund for the Environment. "There are alternatives available to us that can meet demand and would be online faster than Broadwater would."

Small victories win the war someone said..once. Though recently there are other problems clouding the way, so to speak, from achieving landmark environmental pacts that have been touted and widely spoke about since everyone realized Gore wasn't a wacko and northern New Jersey is disgusting. These recent problems are not in the form of resistance, but the unbelievably slow pace at which bureaucracy charts it's path to solutions. European Union officials have now decided that the proposition set in motion for alt energy etc aren't strict enough and they may have to go back and tighten provisions. At this point I would rather face opposition rather than complacency but who is paying attention anyway.
