Apparently we were at a soft opening or hard opening of this spot (Pops) last weekend? Not sure what is was, but there were beers and burgers and fries and the like. And you know it was on the house.

This joint is the newest addition to a sort of hipster ground zero that is Bedford Avenue from N4-N9. A vortex opened as we stepped onto the Ave. Forcing our way past oversized non-prescription glasses and scarves that double as sleeping bags to a 60's theme-d party in the city. This was a quick stop on the way.

I actually didn't try the food but I did shotgun a beer, and I also drank one normally (actually Malt Liquor from a can). I would eat here and so would so many other people. It is in a perfect location and pretty damn laid back scene. Burgers are $4.50, which means you can almost get 3 of these guys for the price of a Dumont Burger (12.50), and that is really the only information you are gonna get from this review. Don't look for them online, it's impossible.

Pops
American Bar/Comfort Food
I think just beer?
Bedford and North 8th maybe.

Being I may move there I wanted to give the oft forgot area of Red Hook a try. We strolled from the Heights under the BQE all while sifting our way through the hypodermic needles that littered the streets, dealers plying there trade and the occasional rabid dog just waiting to sink those teeth into some meaty thigh. After a quick jaunt through the Red Hook Park, that is not so adorned with poor lighting. We swooned over the adjacent-to-the-park condos/lofts...they were ballin. Walking by and in a couple places we ended up at the perfect place to drown away our sorrows concerning the recent state of the economy.

El Huipil, provided a tasty retreat from the rest of the city while their margaritas fueled what would be 1 memorable night. Simple decor and menu offerings give way to a diverse crowd and laid back, friendly wait-staff. I am going back here. How many times? Who knows? Oh and before I forget . . . the gods smile upon us finding a cab and as we are running to ensure our ride what do we see making a right turn in the distance.
