Vampires and Weekends

I tried and tried again. With some luck I got tickets... YEAH... WHAT! It was such a good time. Vampire Weekend played a great set. The crowd was great... I absolutely LOVED IT. They definitely have a following in the city (well hey they are Columbia grads). Every song was hip and tasty (its called afropop...). I'm not going to review their album or anything... Just Google it I'm sure there are a thousand other blogs that will do it justice. Some guy from MTV News** was there to cover the concert too, so they definitely are getting some press. You have to see them live... It is a guaranteed good time, fun and you will move your body (you really can't help it). I love the fact that it was 16 and over.
I felt sooooooo good when I left Bowery Ballroom. GO SEE THEM. Listen to their album.
They had great energy on stage check it>>>>

**I thought the guy was Kurt Loder and I was about to go up to him and say whats up. I'm happy I didn't because it wasn't Loder it was John Norris. I'm glad I saved myself from an awkward situation... I probably wonder how that introduction would have worked out. He probably would have thought I was some asshole who was doing it on purpose.
Thoughts
In other news... I saw a homeless beg today. He was pleading, taking the definition of beg to new heights. This man was desperate.I ate three, count 'em, three meals today. I feel great.
I have found a new spot. Its actually not new but its new to me. I love it. I've been there the past two nights and both nights left in a Bukowski-esque stumble. This place reminds me of Los Angles for some reason and thats why I love it. The Christmas lights strung along the bar aren't overdone and they illuminate the photos of old Western film stars which are sparsely spread on the walls. Much like the crowd there... Sparse. Both nights I went there it was just my friend, me and the bartender... Well given it was a Tuesday and Wednesday... At 4 am... But thats okay, I like it that way. On Tuesday, we did end up having a conversation with one patron who told us he was going to New Zealand the next day to buy $14 million worth of land, all I could do was nod and laugh. Lets get back to LA shall we? Everytime I leave this place (twice mind you) I feel like I should be breathing in smog, while looking at a freeway in the distance as a plane rumbles overhead. I imagine bumming a cigerette from, say, Scott Weiland on the corner of the street as he leans against a palm tree. No, no, no this isn't a Burbank type of spot I take that back. Maybe I bum a cig off of Tara Reid? No, its not that trashy... Lets go with Nick Nolte, he is doing his best to climb back on the saddle.
Do a little dance...
Shortlist
Smith - Baby Its You (This song if from Tarintino's Deathproof . I don't know how he found it but it is such a goooooood song. Blues to the core, I guess its a remake of the Shirelles song. I can't help but rock back and forth.)
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Quixoticelixer (its just a really good Peppers song. I can't realy say anything else.)
The Whitest Boy Alive - Above You (Part sedative part upper... I don't know who the whitest boy alive is but I think I have an idea.)
Regina Spektor - Hotel Song (This song really irked me when I first heard it but since then it has grown on me. The drums are a little snappy/choppy and thats what made me listen to it again. Now I like it... badadum.)
Weezer - Say it Ain't So (When you spend an entire summer karaoking this tune its hard to forget. OOOOOOOO yeah... Alright. Feels good inside.)
LOOK^^^^ I did all the work, all you have to do is listen.
Sweeeeeeeet Redemption
Lower Lows
I ventured into the unknown last night... Lose my jacket at the coat check. I walk around in the freezing cold weather for a bit... Go to my friends house and go to sleep on the floor after giving up on trying to secure a spot on one of the couches... Wake up, curse the sunlight... Go to the bathroom and look at the man in the mirror... The BIGGEST bags have formed under my eyes, I almost didn't recognize myself... I take a bite of 3 day old carrot cake... Stumble onto the NYC streets in my friends XXL Nike hoodie; I looked like a homeless person... The worst part: A bum is asking for people for money on the street corner but he doesn't ask me! WTF?
Higher Highs
Get HOME... Wash my face and brush my teeth.. Have a fat cup of tea... My friend calls me to meet up... I go through my mail and there is a slip for package pick up on 14th street... I leave my house listening to Where Do I Begin by the Chemical Brothers (If I was filming my morning this song would be featured at some point)... I'm walking down the street to this song sickkkkkkkkkkkk stroll to the post office... I pick up the package and tear into it. My friend sent me homebaked peanut butter cookies for my birthday... I eat one as I go back outside... I reach the corner of 14th and 1st at the exact moment my friend exits the subway... We go back to my apartment to drink tea and eat cookies... We go to Odin and I buy a really warm sweater for 79$!!!!.... Then I go with my friend to the fabric store so she can get fabric swatches... I look through W magazine... We take the R train to Prince street and laugh at passengers... Then we go to Lovely Day and sip on Bloody Marys (one of the best I've had)... I write a couple pages of script and go through some of my tape recorder (!)... We leave and cruise the streets... Go to a vintage shop where I find one of the coolest jackets ever (now I realize I should have taken a picture...). An army style jacket with the Tea for the Tillerman - Cat Stevens album cover HAND stitched, covering the entire back. $1,000... Then we went to the cafe under the American Appareal Ad... I wrote some more. I wrote 6 pages today!!!!!! EXCITEMENT... Then we went back to my apartment and watched Annie Hall... Then I met with some friends at Angels Share... We walked to Belmont... I had a couple glasses of water and a chicken club sandwich... I laughed a lot. When I hang out with these three people for some reason all of us laugh, all the time. I would say 80% of the time we spend together as a group, we are laughing... Then I came home... I search for the dance song with the line 'Now that the love is gone.' And find this: ... Then I laugh to myself as blood pours out of my ears... Then I write this... Then I try to sleep... In MY BED at 12:30am!
And a cheap limousine for your deep pile dreams on the highway
::Sleep Log::
2:23 am - I get home, listen to music for a bit as I lounge on my couch.
3:45 am - I feel like i'm resigned to passing out on the couch. Its cold... I throw on a hoodie in my bedroom then go back to the couch. I can't get comfortable so I go to my bed.
5:21am - I wake up. I lie in bed for a bit then I start reading Fast Forward - Confessions of a Porn Screenwriter by Eric Spitznagel. It was given to me as a present for my birthday this past week. I find it ironic that I had typed an entry on porn screenwriting in November. I guess I finally answered my question. Here is an excerpt from the screenplay for Butt Crazy! by Eric Spitnagel.
LLOYD BURKE
After we learned about Stacey's butt enhancements, we also discovered that almost every contestant was in some way violating the rules of Miss Butt USA. A few girls were caught using butt steroids. At least three admitted to varnishing their butts with shellac to make them extra shiny. We even found out that one of them wasn't a real woman.
Hilarious dialouge. For the sex scenes:
SEX SEQUENCE, TWO ACTORS & ACTRESS, SS#3, B/B/G
7:00 am - Try to go back to sleep to no avail. I read a little more then make a cup'o'tea, decaf green. I turn on the new Robert Plant & Alison Krauss album and whip out my laptop to start writing.
8:37 am - Tired... Pass out on my couch.
9: 23 am - Wake up.
10:57 am - Go to sleep
12 pm - Wake up... stay up.
Waiting For the Sun
What the fuck... Sounds like a great plan.
Yeah I got more records than the KGB
After talking about Morocco yesterday someone recommended going to Essaouira (formely Mogador). It was the setting for Orson Wells' "Othello," apparently it has really good surf, and just looks gorgeous. I'm definitely hitting upppppp.
It is impossible to find tickets to this show at the Bowery Ballroom on 1/29 or 1/30.
All you ever wanted was a $60 bag
The best part of this song occurs at 2:32.
