D.A.R.E
I was young, naive, and was in awe of the world around me. The fourth grade was a crazy time. That was when I was![]()
My Prize introduced to something called D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) an international education program that seeks to prevent use of illegal drugs, membership in gangs, and violent behavior. After a few visits from local law enforcement agents we were assigned the task of writing an essay explaining why we would never do drugs and how they could harm our future, destroy relationships with our family and friends, and ultimately destroy us.
Well... I was young and my heart was an open book, I use to say life and let life. I wrote an essay. I wrote a fucking jewel the antithesis of Hunter S. Thompson. Out of about 300 young minds like me my essay was chosen to be read in front of parents, police, teachers and comrades. I was young and thrilled. I demonstrated to my community that I understood drugs were evil and would lead to no good. How I wish I had a copy of that essay so I could post it on this blog. I received a medal and a stuffed animal for my prose.
Now here I am. D.A.R.E. failed me. However I did find the stuffed animal at home and he will sleep next to me tonight.
