Tea TimeAlright, let me hit you with some knowledge. I am an avid tea drink and connoisseur of sorts. I was sippin' green tea before the studies dropped. I was there before the mate boom of the past year. I was slowly whittling down a kilo of that stuff over the course of a year with my bombilla in hand.
I was on the tea scene man, I was baggin' it and sellin' it on the streets. I had the whites, blacks, reds, and exotic blends before they were on your supermarket shelf. I've been to Darjeeling and I saw a single man harvest 5 tons of tea leafs with his bare hands. You hear me? His bare hands. I've seen a woman in Morocco prepare over 100 cups of Atai in under 5 minutes. I've seen it all. Chai sit downs with your parents and meetings with Earl in London. Tea ceremonies in Tokyo before you saw that Tom Cruise movie. WHAT!?
Right now I'm drinking some South African Rooibos tea. Its a red tea, however it is oxidized from green leafs. Red is by far the more popular leaf. Slightly sweet, I choose to drink it straight up but people also like it with milk and sugar. Its also caffeine free and shares many of the same health benefits as green tea. I recommend steeping the leafs for around 10 minutes (single cup, 30minutes/pot). You can use the leafs for a few servings. If you live in the NYC area I recommend going to McNulty's Tea & Coffee Company a quaint little store in the West Village.
A Lesson Learned and the shortlist
I picked up a copy of AM New York on my way home from yoga. By the way not to be a dirt bag... There was a beautiful (beau-ti-ful) girl in my class today. Spanish in origin definitely, Spain/Barca, I think she was speaking Catalan with her girlfriend. Wow... I tried getting a spot next to her but I came late and the only spot was up front.
ANYWAY, the purpose of a newspaper called AM New York is for people to read it in the AM. I've been listening to Sufjan Stevens for the past week and he was performing tonight in Park Slope. I missed it... it was sold out but tickets on craigslist were only $40. I would have gone. Bummer...
The Shortlist:
David Bowie - Moonage Daydream (It's 70's David Bowie Mannnnnn. The Santa Monica '72 live version is a personal favorite)
The Libertines - Music When The Lights Go Out (I have been listening to Pete Doherty on a consistent basis for the past week. I like it a lot. The horn at the beginning sucked me in. Here is an acoustic sample of the good stuff.)
The Killers - Where the White Boys Dance (Off their new b-sides cd Sawdust, the drums are great , the piano is great, the chorus is great. A bit commercial to the ear... who cares. By the way, if the name of this song was posed as a question the answer would be my apartment. They also collaborated with the one and only Lou Reed on the track Tranquilize. I can just imagine Lou jamming out with these young bucks and that makes me smile.)
Weezer - Undone/Sweater Song (Last night I ate at Momofuku for the first time in months. This song was playing, I hadn't heard it in months. I like it, you will too.)
Traffic - Dear Mr. Fantasy (Play us a tune/Something to make us all happy. Classic song. Personally, I like biking to this song for some reason. When this song is playing I am at a higher risk of getting hit by a car. Performing live here.)
