The Roaring Twenties

[taken from article]

I met Chris several years ago through mutual friends. My first impression of him (which I’m sure he gets real tired of hearing) was how YOUNG he was – and still is. At the ripe old age of 20, he maintains a well-read product blog and works with some of the best brands in the industry, all while keeping up with a full-time college schedule. Naturally, I asked him to help me out with an interview since he’s got so much time on his hands. Thanks, Chris!

Fallen Behind

In an industry driven by sneakivity [sneaker + creativity], skate shoe companies [typically the ones lagging] nip at the heels of the big dog in an attempt to get some crumbs from last season's table. In this case, Fallen, who laces up hammerheads Jamie Thomas, Billy Marks, and Tommy Sandoval, mercilessly rips Supra on two shoes:

Suprano

Trooper

On the first rip, Fallen claws at the stripes from Jim Greco's pro model, the Suprano, and slaps them on their Trooper model, one of Fallen's top cookie-cutter silhouettes. Besides being a ten-down one-up attempt, the only major difference is Fallen claims the stripes as "tiger". Fallen's prowl continues...

Skytop

Chief Mid

For Jamie Thomas' Chief Mid pro model, Fallen takes the shoe that launched Supra to infinity and beyond--Chad Muska's Skytop--and bites the Croc detail. Fallen's a little late on this flop. This shoe dropped in Supra's Summer line. And just off the top of my head, could this be a Jamie Thomas vs Chad Muska market showdown? Ha! Please.

Even though Fallen's upcoming Ride the Sky will be a bone-crushing skate vid [I can't wait 'til it comes out], Jamie Thomas' "skate or die" mentality will never outshine Chad Muska's "shades or die" image. Most kids don't even know who Chad Muska is, yet their closet collection keeps piling higher and higher as Supra drops a new color of the Skytop each week. In today's generation, image outweighs individuality, and unfortunately for a lot of passionate skateboarders, a "core" attitude doesn't sell shoes.

Fallen is the most skate-forward shoe company out there, but Supra, especially after witnessing their Spring '09 Collection, will be running the skate game for a while. Besides, their team is just STACKED. Jim Greco is a trip--just check his hilarious interview HERE and him causing ruckus HERE.

See It's Easy

we muse the same misty tree
we dangle discrepant dreams
over the haze of insecurity
hide the sun of our destiny

held my tongue every time you spoke
wanted to tell of the fruit i hoped
you would behold in the grove
near the brook of the home
we eventually owned [in our shared county]

grazed your hand through a note
that i slipped inside your lie-lack coat
while you were deciphering Poe
say, do you understand Ulalume?

i know you unfolded and read it
[or did you read it and unfold?]
but the trash wouldn't accept it
'twas compacted in your memory

so now i wait for your whisper
through the waning of winter
while the nosy cold moseys through your
overly-hidden, heated, secrecies

and i gape as our silhouettes in symmetry
become one with the trunk of the tree
and both our dreams finally meet
at the lips of love while lie-abilities languish

Let's Talk Montauk

This unidentified horrid creature went from the sandy shores of Ditch Plains Beach [2mi east of Montauk, NY] to every media outlet in the nation in nearly a week. Then it captivated/stunned the online world by scoring its own Wikipedia Page--the internet equivalent to a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Where will we smell its stench next? Our back door? We'll have to keep our noses to the air. Until then, cop this highly unlimited Montauk Monster T-Shirt and add "Hipster Tourist" to your urban dictionary.
