Nick Cave Reads from…
Monday, September 14th, 2009His second book, The Death of Bunny Monroe, at the Union Square Barnes and Nobel at 7 pm. I’m excited to hear the man read aloud.
A recollection… The year was ‘95 and I was a youth of 14. Val Kilmer was Batman and I bought the soundtrack to the film. I only bought it because of Seal’s Kiss From a Rose. I don’t know why I blew twenty bucks when I could have listened to the song over a hundred times a day on the radio. I later realized that it may have been one of most rewarding compact discs in my collection. How fortuitous! It introduced my ear to The Flaming Lips, PJ Harvey, Massive Attack and Nick Cave. The Nick Cave track in particular was extremely enjoyable for a boy growing up in Iowa. I subsequently investigated The Birthday Party and those Bad Seeds. Then I touched it.
Speaking of home, I think I’m going there for the weekend but not before I see LAG’s brand new tuxedo (<– not an allusion).
I think the far right one is the strongest competitor to the classic (below).
Ehhh… On second thought, I recant. Not even close.
